Bio4Self is an European project with the aim to produce composite materials from renewable sources – combining PLA (polylactic acid) with a bio-LCP (Liquid Crystal Biopolymer) – to obtain excellent mechanical properties in the final product. Thus, BIO4SELF aims at fully biobased self-reinforced polymer composites (SRPC). The various processing steps also allow to give other properties to the material, such as a greater resistance to temperature, self-cleaning and self-healing properties. The new material is being used in the production of advanced prototypes for household and automotive applications.
